नीपा अपने मातहत कई बाह्य प्रायोजित और आंतरिक अनुसंधान परियोजनाएं संचालित करता है. इन परियोजनाओं के लिए सक्षम प्राधिकारी द्वारा प्राप्त अनुमोदन के आधार पर परियोजना कर्मचारियों की नियुक्ति की जाती है। यह पद विशुद्ध रूप से अस्थायी/संविदात्मक हैं. जिसका प्रबंधन व्यक्तिगत अनुसंधान अध्ययन और विकास कार्यक्रमों की विशिष्ट आवश्यकताओं को ध्यान में रखते हुए किया जाता है। संस्थान अपने नोडल मंत्रालय, अन्य विभागों/राज्यों, सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उपक्रमों और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों द्वारा वित्तपोषित परियोजनाओं के अतिरिक्त प्रायोजित अध्ययन परियोजनाओं को संचालित करता है। अनुसंधान सम्बन्धी विभिन्न परियोजनाओं की सभी प्रशासनिक गतिविधियों को संचालित करने के लिए, नीपा प्रबंधन बोर्ड की 16 वीं बैठक में नीपा, परियोजना प्रबंधन इकाई (पीएमयू) बनाने का निर्णय लिया गया था। इसके बाद, पीएमयू की स्थापना अधिसूचना संख्या 22-1/2012-एसीएडी दिनांक 02 फरवरी, 2014 के तहत की गई थी।

	संस्थान में शुरू की गई विभिन्न परियोजनाओं सम्बन्धी सभी गतिविधियों को जैसे प्रोजेक्ट स्टाफ की भर्ती के चरण से लेकर उनकी संविदात्मक सेवा के अंत तक सभी मामलों को बोर्ड ऑफ़ मैनेजमेंट के अनुमोदन से गठित परियोजना प्रबंधन इकाई द्वारा संचालित किया जाता है।
	परियोजनाओं के वित्तपोषण से लेकर लेखा तक के सभी मामलों को संचालित करना।
	प्रत्येक तिमाही के अंत में संकाय सदस्यों से अद्यतन प्रगति रिपोर्ट प्राप्त करना और इन प्रगति रिपोर्टों के आधार पर पूर्ण हो चुके और चल रहे अनुसंधान अध्ययनों की सूची तैयार करना।
	विज्ञापन और आवेदनों के संक्षिप्त विवरण तैयार करना।
	परियोजना के विभिन्न पदों के लिए साक्षात्कार सम्बन्धी स्क्रीनिंग और चयन समितियों की बैठकों का आयोजन और कार्यवृत्त की तैयार करना।
	विभिन्न परियोजनाओं और प्रशासनिक विभागों, अनुभागों, इकाइयों और केंद्रों में तैनात किए जाने वाले परियोजना कर्मचारियों की भर्ती और नियुक्ति।
	प्रत्येक मामले की गहरी पड़ताल के बाद परियोजना कर्मचारियों की नई नियुक्तियों और सेवा विस्तार के लिए प्राप्त सभी अनुरोधों की प्रोसेसिंग।
	सभी परियोजना कर्मचारियों सम्बन्धी व्यक्तिगत फाइलों, अवकाश का रिकॉर्ड, उपस्थिति-अनुपस्थिति आदि के विवरण का रख-रखाव।
	परियोजना कर्मचारियों का मासिक वेतन तैयार करना।
	परियोजना कर्मचारियों को उनका कार्यकाल पूरा होने पर या उनमें से किसी के द्वारा इस्तीफा देने पर प्रस्ताव पत्र, कार्यमुक्त, अनुभव और संबंधित अन्य प्रमाण पत्र एवं दस्तावेज जारी करना
	महिला परियोजना कर्मचारियों के मातृत्व अवकाश संबंधित मामलों की प्रोसेसिंग और इस विषय पर नियमों-विनियमों के अनुसार सिफारिशें करना
	नई परियोजनाओं की शुरुआत और परियोजना के अवधि विस्तार (यदि कोई हो) और समय-समय पर परियोजना कर्मचारियों की नियुक्ति की अवधि के बारे में अधिसूचनाएं जारी करना
	बाह्य वित्त पोषित परियोजनाओं से संबंधित सभी मामलों को संचालित करना।
	राज्यों को धन हस्तांतरण से संबंधित मामलों को प्रोसेस करना।

PMU looks after the works related to the Grants-in-Aid Scheme of the Ministry of Education, Govt. India, which involves:
	Preparation of the briefs of the proposals received from various organizations for grants in aid and present them before the Grants-in-Aid Committee (GIAC) to facilitate them during the meetings.
	Conduct of the meetings of the GIAC and preparation of the Minutes of the meetings.
	Issue of sanction letters.
	Maintaining records of the each of the grantee institutions separately.
	Monitoring the timely receipt of the required documents and subsequent disbursement of grants after examination of the documents.

नीपा ने रिपोर्ट बुक, शोध-पत्र, सामयिक-पत्र आदि विभिन्न प्रकार के प्रकाशन द्वारा अनुसंधान का प्रसार करने के लिए ठोस तंत्र और रणनीति बनाने हेतु आंतरिक अनुसंधान समीक्षा समिति का गठन किया है। आईआईआरसी नीपा के संकाय सदस्यों द्वारा प्रस्तुत किए गए नए शोध प्रस्तावों को बाहरी समीक्षकों द्वारा उनकी टिप्पणियों के लिए भेजे जाने से पहले खुद समीक्षा करता है। पीएमयू निम्नलिखित तरीकों से आंतरिक अनुसंधान समीक्षा समिति की सहायता करता है:
	आईआईआरसी द्वारा विचार के लिए प्रस्तुत किये गए सभी शोध अध्ययनों के रिकॉर्ड को बनाए रखकर।
	समय-समय पर आईआईआरसी की बैठकों का आयोजन करना और समिति के परामर्श से कार्यवृत्त तैयार करना।
	समिति के निर्णयों और सिफारिशों को उससे सम्बंधित को सूचित करना और समिति की सिफारिशों पर आवश्यक कार्रवाई करना।
